The world-renowned historian and researcher Prof. Sanjay Subrahmanyam Gives A Conference at Özyeğin University
Özyeğin University continued to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its founding with a conference by Prof. Dr. Sanjay Subrahmanyam, who is renowned for his international studies in the field of history. The conference “Empires and Connected Histories in 1680s” took place on December 12, 2018 on the Çekmeköy Campus of Özyeğin University, and was followed with great interest by academicians, students, and history enthusiasts. Invited to Istanbul as a guest speaker by Özyeğin University, Prof. Subrahmanyam also attended the panel discussion “From Modernization to Early Modernity: Changing Perspectives in the Connected Histories and Historiographies of the Ottoman and Mughal Worlds” at Bomonti Ada, Istanbul on December 14. Both events were hosted by Özyeğin University, and Prof. Dr. Sanjay Subrahmanyam was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Cemal Kafadar, a professor of Turkish Studies at the History Department at Harvard University.
Sanjay Subrahmanyam is a historian who specializes in the medieval and early modern period. In addition to numerous international awards, Prof. Subrahmanyan also holds the Irving and Jean Stone Endowed Chair in Social Sciences at the University of California (UCLA). In 2012, Prof. Subrahmanyam was honored with the Infosys Prize for Humanities in recognition of his contributions to the field of history. He was also awarded the Martine Aublet Prize for 2018 by Musée du Quai Branly for his book “L'inde sous les yeux de l'Europe: Mots, peuples, empires”.
